API access

Are you planning adding API?

Would love to have an option to ping specific IP's/domain in specific locations from ping.pe with X interval.

Thanks for the good work!

Hi,

Unfortunately API access is not realistic at the moment due to very limited capacity (some endpoints will not be able to handle the added load).

That's understandable. What about making limited free plan and paid plan, if people need more checks? Something like 100 ping checks for free, but if you need more purchase/subscribe to the bigger package.

I have been thinking on how to approach this for a while. There's so much I want to do... It'd be great to have API, more endpoints, free/paid plans, etc.

But, at this point ping.pe is running close to max. capacity. Without some serious re-thinking of concept, code rewrites and infrastructure re-do we can't have more features / more endpoints etc. The other thing is... to be frank, I do not want this to turn into another sales portal with plans, features etc. I miss that part of the web, when you could just have something for free with no strings attached. We've seemingly completely lost this concept many years ago.

On the other hand, there are quite a few similar projects available now, ranging from complete ripoffs of ping.pe, to entirely new (and even better in some ways) ideas, some of which do offer API. Speaking of which, have you tried Globalping? https://www.jsdelivr.com/globalping

I totally get your point there. The problem is that I use ping.pe to monitor (manually) if my infrastructure gets blocked by GFW (China), so I can quickly change IP's/domains. I know what there is other services, but I have not found anyone giving API access.

The main value in ping.pe for me is the endpoints at this moment.

Perhaps invite-only limited API access + donations is the way? There is so many options and I hope that you will overcome the technical difficulties.

Either way PM me if you will add API at some point, I would love to test it out and give feedback! Thank you for your work.

What about offering API access to people who offer you a host.

I have servers in US NL PL SG and would happily run something to let you MTR from it on some of them in return for being able to monitor my services for issues.

I am ready to donate some servers too. Or even home ISP networks from EU and Russia, if needed. Anything for limited API :)
